Match of the Century

 

Based on the final game of the Chess WM 1972 between Boris Spasski and Bobby Fischer, you play several games, albeit only of a few moves. You use cards with unique effects from your asymmetric deck and influence mental stamina and outcome of a game = round. Each represents two out of 32 chess pieces with indicators for strength and effect, you change color of your pieces for each round. A round comprises maximum four attacks of 1) determine initiative, 2) Player with initiative selects an attack area, plays a card and can strengthen the depicted piece with up to two pawns, 3) the opponent plays a card into the same area and can strengthen the piece, 4) compare total strength of pieces, the weaker player can activate effects of the pieces, the stronger one receives the advantage and wins the attack. When the sum of advantages to receive is smaller than the advantage of a player on the track, the round ends. Mental stamina influences limit of cards in hand. If a King reaches the middle of the combat track, its owner wins instantly.
