PLAYED FOR YOU

Barragoon

Abstract strategy

In order to win you try to capture all opposing pieces or to hinder all opposing pieces to move by moving your own pieces and by placing Barragoon pieces. A Barragoon piece carries six different symbols and can, according to the symbol it shows, be crossed in direction of the arrow(s). Playing pieces have values of Two to Four and move their value or value minus on, orthogonally and changing directions only once in a turn by 90°; you cannot cross pieces or capture one of your own pieces-

When a piece moves onto a square with an opposing piece, this piece is captured and removed from the board, regardless of the value of capturing or captured piece. Then each player places one new Barragoon, the owner of the captured pieces places his Barragoon first. When a piece moves to a Barragoon, the Barragoon is always captured, but there is one exception: Should the Barragoon show the All Turns symbol, it cannot be captured by a piece of value Two.

A captured Barragoon is taken off and re-entered again anywhere. A newly placed Barragoon is placed showing the symbol chosen by the player and can be turned after placement to determine the crossing direction for pieces. Pieces can only execute a capture when moving their full value!

Barragoon is an abstract game of surprising depths and a clear learning curve; it takes some games to become familiar with the options offered by pieces, especially by Barragoons, because they can transform quickly from welcome blockade to unwanted obstacle. Barragoon is a very good and recommendable addition to the genre of abstract games for two, with the potential to become a classic!
