PLAYED FOR YOU

Packet Row

New York, 1842

Trading companies and their offices are located in Packet row in the Docks of New York. You profit from transatlantic trade and donate money to charity at the right moment. At the start of a round the Harbor Master chooses one of the four boards - Guildhall, Docks, Market or Bank, with cards in Current Supply and Future Supply cases. In turn each player who wants a card from Current Stock of the active board pays the price and places his marker: Merchant Ships are laid out openly, other cards are taken in hand. If you do not take a card you can maybe take a card later from another board. Finally, the Harbor Master can take a card and thus end the round. Alternately, he chooses a new board and each player still without a card can take one now, and so on.

At any time in the game you can meet contracts by discarding the respective commodity cards, but you must hold the corresponding Merchant Ship. You receive the money for the contract and discards all cards used to meet the contract. Captains and Traders can change the target of a ship or the type of commodity. When the Current Supply on 1-3 boards cannot be replenished, the game ends. You can still meet contracts and then you score for buildings and money.

The game features an interesting mechanism for acquiring cards; combinations of money, acquiring victory points and card abilities of Banker, Captain or buildings result in lots of options, but their implementation can take time or you might be forced to re-plan, as the necessary cards do not come or are snatched from under your nose.
