PLAYED FOR YOU

The Chromatical Gambler

Practising keys and scales

Information on keys and scales can be intensified and expanded, some knowledge in music is postulated for players. Three player markers should be brought to the “Triad House” Stall as quickly as possible, while taking the chosen key into account. You can play in in major scales as well as harmonic and melodic minor scales and in six different levels of difficulty. Cases that do not belong to the chosen keys may not be entered, otherwise you use rules based on the rules for Ludo.

To choose the key you roll both dice, the number of the white die determines the level of difficulty, the result of the black die determines the key according to a table; you can also choose to automatically play Level 1. You always roll both dice, for an even result you may place a marker at the start; figures already started can be moved by the amount of pips you rolled. If you reach a case that is occupied you may oust the marker already there; if you would reach a case that does not suit the chosen key, you cannot move your marker. If you can only reach a case with one of your own marker, you cannot move, either. When you reach the basic tone of the key you may roll and move again. At the Triad House you only use one die and can only move with a result of 2. In an expert version each player rolls the die for his own key.

All in all this a standard game using standard mechanisms; the restrictions in cases that can be enter restrict of course your chances to move; as the game, on top of those restrictions, demands knowledge of keys and scales is is really best used as a training game for the aforementioned subjects of keys and scales.
