Laser Maze

Lichtreflexion an Spiegeln

Laws of Physics are rather rarely used as basics for a game mechanisms. Here in Laser Maze it is done, the topics are light rays and how they are reflected, that is, incoming angle equals outgoing angle and the practical application of this principle, also demanding spatial thinking and logical thinking.

The game comprises different types of playing pieces: The Red Laser piece sends out the ray. Purple pieces can be used as mirrors or as Target piece. When a purple piece is used as a target, the red reflection zones on it must light up. The green Beam Splitters split the ray into two parts, one goes straight through, the other is going out in a 90° angle. The double-sided blue mirror sends rays on in a 90°angle on both sides and the yellow Check Point piece must be passed through by the ray of light. The black piece is a Cell Blocker, it lets light pass in any direction, but blocks a position on the board for another piece.

The game comprises 60 puzzles in varying levels of difficulty; pieces that are needed for a puzzle are placed on the grid as shown in the template; when the image of a piece in the template is marked with a question mark you must find out its correct orientation, and for a n unmarked purple piece you must figure out if it is mirror or target. When the given pieces are placed you must add the other pieces shown in the template into the grid so that the ray will hit the target or targets.

Tricky, interesting and a well-done challenge for logical thinking and fun in figuring out a solution, fun to play and by the by also good tutoring in the laws of light reflection.
