Insel Flucht
From tower to harbor Exit
A town on an island - named Atlantis in the English language edition - threatens to sink under water and its residents must reach the harbor and the boat. A grid 7x7 represents the island; it shows two fixed towers in adjacent corners and the harbor exit opposite the right-hand tower, seen from the exit. You select a puzzle in one of the five levels of difficulty - Starter - Junior - Expert - Master - Wizard - and put the starting tower into the given position. Then you take the indicated parts, marked by colored staircases, and build a path from the gate in the tower to the exit. The path can go up and down stairs and also through tunnels; there is always a solution and only one solution. Those solutions are given in the second part of the booklet.
Publisher Smart has become a synonym for those kind of puzzles and, with Insel-Flucht, expands his range of challenging and well-made logic games in familiar quality. The basic principle is known, yes, but Insel-Flucht is more than a typical example for the genre of logic puzzles using positioning mechanisms. At first glance, you recognize the haptic and visual quality of the individual building blocks; their design reminds one of real stone, and staircases and tunnels do really result in the image of a town, seen a bit from above. You might think that the tasks are simple as you do not have to fill the complete 7x7 grid, but that is an error - the use of all five stair blocks in the Wizard level is a demanding challenge for you ability to think in 3D and to plan positions. Here, you sometimes need to literally think around corners, and even through tunnels!
