Greed

Gangsters, Greed and greenbacks

At the time of the Hippies in America, the surface seems to be love, peace and happiness only, but beneath the surface the gangsters are more greedy than ever before. Action cards, gangsters and shares are shuffled together and you are dealt 12 cards, which you stack face-down. In turn players choose one card from their stack and then a second one, the remaining stack is handed on. Then you play ten rounds comprising: Choose a card from your stack, play a card, implement card actions and then implement “each round” actions on your cards on display. Depending on the card you played you pay costs or meet conditions and then use the action – some times more than once, some only in the next round, some only once, either immediately or later in the game. Action cards are used only once and are then discarded. Gangsters bring money, additional actions or holdings in businesses. Holdings are shares in legal businesses, symbolized by winning markers. Gangsters and holdings you played are put into your display, their symbols are used to meet conditions on cards you want to play. After 12 rounds each winning marker is worth 10.000 and you win with the highest total from winning markers and cash.

Well, Greed is not Nefarious and not Dominion either, but take care not to be disappointed only because Donald X. Vaccarino has not produced another masterpiece. Greed is a solid card game, albeit with a rather high “being played” element; strategies based on cards you saw can be tried, but are not guaranteed to work, a lot depends on the first two cards from your starting stack, the fewer players the more often the cards will come round.
