TURN BLACK TO WHITE!

Othello, one of the classics in the range of abstract games for two players that keeps re-appearing time and again, has this year been published in a new edition by Piatnik.

The game comprises 64 double-sided playing pieces, black on one side and white on the other. You choose a color, Black starts the game and places two pieces on the starting position: The diagonal in the middle square, from top left to bottom right, player White fills the square with two white pieces in the opposite diagonal. Then in your turn you place one piece on the 8x8 board. You must put the new piece down next to an opposing piece and in a way that you enclose at least one opposing piece between the newly placed piece and any other piece of your color, but always in a straight line. You then turn over all opposing pieces enclosed in that way to your color, even if you would prefer not to turn over all of them due to tactical reasons. If you cannot do a move according to these rules you must pass your turn. Should you have turned over incorrect pieces, you can correct the mistake as long as your opponent has not placed his piece. Should you run out of pieces but would still be able to enclose and turn over opposing pieces to your color, your opponent must hand over the necessary pieces from his stock. If none of the players can execute a correct move the game ands and you win if the majority of pieces on the board show your color.
