Romans go Home!
Scots versus romans versus scotts
Scottish clans want to tear down Hadrian’s Wall but still have time for their customary skirmishes among each other. Each player is given a set of nine clan warrior cards. In each of three rounds six castle cards are revealed and laid out in ascending order of values from left to right. You draw seven of your clan cards and choose six of them for the round; then you place them face-down beneath the castle cards, from left to right in the order in which you want to play them.
This deployment of cards is followed by six attack turns. All players simultaneously reveal their face-down card that is the one furthest on the left. Whoever then has the highest total value of all clan members on display, conquers the castle that is the one furthest to the left. In case of a tie in values the castle is discarded. So far so simple, were there not the special effects of clan warriors and castles which alter those basic rules. Clan warriors only take effect in the round in which they were played, a castle becomes effective when it is conquered. The effects range from choosing a castle to keeping a card that was played to definitely not conquering anything or negative points or ...
You win with three conquered Legion castles, which on their own cause penalty points, or after three rounds with most victory points on the castles you won.
Well, if you like chaos for a game mechanism, “Romans Go Home!” is a game for you. The topic and the illustrations are fun, playing the game isn’t always, because you can forget planning – if you do not mind that chance plays kingmaker, you will have fun with the skirmishes.
