Die Siedler von Catan

The island of Catan, consisting of 19 landscape tiles, must be explored and settled with roads, settlements and cities. The landscape tiles yield different resources, and you can access those resources by building roads and settlements. The dice determine for each round who receives resources from the landscape carrying the number rolled. Those resources – wool, clay, wood, ore and grain – pay for building of roads, settlements and cities and can be traded with the active player. If the dice result is Seven, the robber arrives, blocks a resources tile and steals resources from players.

In this edition a new Robber piece is included that is meant to be used with an App that you can download for free and that is activated by the App. Die App is suitable for all devices using iOS5 and higher and is activated either when a 7 was rolled or when a settlement or city was build. The Robber is placed on the corresponding case. This triggers an event, which demands decisions or reacts to the current situation in the game. Some events are part of a treasure hunt with which you can find treasures and acquire the special victory point “Biggest Treasure”. You implement directions and provide the necessary information. Otherwise, standard rules apply and to win you need, as usual, 10 victory points from cities, settlements, Development cards and special victory points.

If you like variation in your Settlers game you will have fun with the interaction and the mischievous, cute remarks of the robbers; the core game remains unchanged, play might a wee bit longer due to the App handling, but Settlers is still Settlers.
