PLAYED FOR YOU

Donburiko

Acorns rolling down!

As in a Japanese nursery rhyme you collect acorns and take them up the mountain, because the song tells that the acorns want to play with the loaches, but then yearn to be back on the mountain.

The game comprises ten cards with acorns of different values, plus two loach cards, four negative pond cards and a handful of scoring chips. Each player starts with three or four chips of value 1. For a round all cards are shuffled and you lay out as many cards as there are players, and then each player is dealt three or four cards.

In your turn you place a card openly or face-down into a row, maximum seven cards, or take a row and quit for the round. For a card that you place openly you take a chip from the bank; on a card that you place face-down you must put one of your chips. You can only take a column that has a minimum of two cards in it; columns with 6 cards are worth 0, but you can still take chips on cards in this columns! When you take a column you first take the chips on the cards of the column and then add the card values. A total of 6 is called Donburiko and the round ends immediately. If you score between 0 and 5, you earn chips equal to your score. If you are below 0 or over 6, you pay the difference to 6 or 0 to the bank. When all players have taken a row, a new round begins. When the bank is empty or someone has 20 chips, you win with most chips at the end of this round.

Guessing, hoping,  annoying someone, be annoyed yourself - lots of fun and bluff in this small card fun, hidden traps cost you chips, but grabbing cards at the right moment can earn you lots of chips! So let the acorns roll!
