Jubiläumsedition 1935-2015

The Anniversary Edition on occasion of the 80^th birthday of Monopoly! Eighty years ago, in 1935, Parker Brothers introduced the game by Charles Brace Darrow into their range of games, after having rejected the game in the previous year.

As it befits the occasion of an Anniversary edition, this edition comes in vintage design and features wooden houses and hotels, not colored, but plain wood. For six players the game provides eight metal playing pieces, each of them is meant to commemorate one decade of Monopoly history - lantern, bath tub, cannon, rider, cup, locomotive, money bag and - the latest arrival - the cat.

The streets of this edition are not assigned to specific cities and carry standard names of streets – Hauptstraße und Badstraße or Goethestraße. Of course, the game board, the Event Cards and the Community cards are designed in retro vintage look. The basic mechanisms of the game are the same - you buy real estate lots, receive or pay rent, build houses and hotels, pay tax or end up in jail. If you roll a double you have another complete turn, but in case you roll three doubles in a row you go to jail immediately. An interesting detail: The rules advises players to do without house rules to keep the game challenging; do not lend money to each other and do not forgo the collecting of rent.

As was to be expected, this Anniversary edition presents the type of Monopoly that we love and know, without any additions based on license or other topics, pure Monopoly, that is. However, I was disappointed that the promised anecdotes on the history of Monopoly were not on the box, at least not on mine.
