Mahé

Turtles laying eggs at the beach

Turtles are laying their eggs on the beach of Mahé in the Seychelles. Numbers 1 to 21 form a track around the island. All Turtles begin the race on the raft next to number 1. 24 cards depicting varying numbers of eggs, that is, clutches, are shuffled and four of them are taken out of play. The rest is placed on the spot on the island and the top one is revealed. In your turn you take three dice and roll them one at a time. After each die you decide if you want to continue. If you go on and the total of pips is higher than 7 your turn ends and your turtle must go to the raft. If you stay at 7 or lower, you move your turtle accordingly counter-clockwise. If your result was achieved with two or three dice you move double or triple the number of steps you rolled. If you end up on an occupied space you put your turtle on top of the one(s) already there. You are carried along then, and the owner of the top turtle decide if the owner of the one(s) below must roll a second or third die. If seven is topped, both turtles go to the raft1 In any case the turtle of the active player only takes along turtles above her! When you reach or pass 21, you take the top clutch card, in a stack the card goes to the owner of the turtle on top. When the last clutch card was taken someone can collect seven eggs depicted on the spot and then you win with most eggs.

Of all the topics used with this mechanism so far, I like this one best, and also believe it fits the mechanism best, providing a fantastic family game, simple and quickly explained and really thrilling due how you roll your dice - shall I or shall I not risk rolling the third one?
