Underwater Cities

 

New room for settlements must be erected underwater and all develop their own underwater nation – cities, connected by transport tunnels. After complex preparations the game is played in rounds with changing player turn orders. For a turn, you hold three cards, play one and also select an available action slot; when card and slot have the same color, you also resolve the card effect, which can be once-only or permanent; card types are action cards, production cards, end-of-game scoring cards or special cards and give resources, let you construct or upgrade city domes, tunnels or production buildings like farms, laboratories or desalination units. Building is paid for with resources or credits. Buildings give bonuses, connections to coastal cities give advantages. After four rounds of three turns each, the first production phase follows producing resources and credits and feeding the cities. A second and third production phase follow at the end of rounds 7 and 10; for each of those eras, a separate deck of cards is used. After the third production phase, the final scoring is done for end-of-game scoring tiles and cards as well as for networks and resources.
