In the cooperative Living Card Game, based on trading card mechanisms, players in a fellowship of heroes master dangerous adventures in Middle Earth. There are Hero cards, player cards, Encounter cards and Adventure cards. Sarumans Verrat is a Saga expansion and introduces 165 new cards with new Campaign, Favor and Burden cards for use in three scenarios in a campaign mode in continuation of the campaign, to continue Das Land des Schattens. Cards from the Fellow Sphere - Aragorn, Banner of Elendil and the Favor cards Knappe von Rohan and Knappe von Gondor - should only be used in the saga expansions. The three scenarios are „Der Weg der Grauen Schar“, featuring thenew Keyword Phantom on Untot cards; “Die Belagerung Gondors“ and „Die Schlacht auf den Pelennor-Feldern” with the new key word Ansturm“ and Minas Tirith for a destination.
