Subject of the game is very simple: be the first to get rid of your cards. To achieve that, the active players puts down one of his animal cards face up and turns over any card in the chicken pen, trying to find a match. If there is no match, he takes back his card, turns the card on the table over again and ends his move. If there is a match, he discards his animal card and has another move, until he either has no cards in his hand or there is no match. At the end of a move all chicken pen cards are turned back over again and the player replenishes his hand to 5 cards from his own draw pile. If he finds a piece of chicken shit and does not immediately uncover a shovel, he must draw 2 cards from an other player and take his own card back.
